In the
Mob We have a number of copies of this award-winning book: it was Brian
Sewell's choice as the London Evening Standard's Book of the Year -
which is a seriously strong plaudit for a self-published book. It's a very
interesting memoir of the late Tony Pearson's experiences during National
Service, the only period of UK conscription not immediately adjacent to a war.
See the Express & Echo:
Service memoirs win Book of the Year award and the
Exmouth Journal's
From jumble of notes to Book of the
Year
(Personal view by Ray, website maintainer: this is a
very good book. It's not - as is often the case - an indictment or satire of
National Service, but an intelligent and straightforward account). |

Joel Segal (left), Bill Pertwee and Lily Neal at Bill's signing
session on 24th August 2006 for the promotion of his two latest books: his
autobiography A Funny Way to Make a Living and Stars in
Battledress, the story of service entertainers in WW2. |
On the Turn of the Tide "Diana Fynns
autobiography is a moving account of her quest to make sense of lifes
spiritual experiences, as she played her part in some of the most turbulent
events of the 20th century. As secretary to Roger Hollis (later suspected of
being the Fifth Man in the MI5 spy-ring) she lived through the London Blitz at
the nerve centre of British Intelligence. Later in Southern Rhodesia (now
Zimbabwe) she set up a home for orphaned African children and, because of her
reaction against white racism and political moves towards apartheid, she helped
to form the multi-racial Centre Party and edited its anti-government newspaper.
Through all this, often captured in her own vivid poetry, Dianas
sensitivity to spiritual and psychic experience enables her to take the reader
on a rare exploration into what it means to be human".
